How it Works

Pen and Paper Work Together

The paper used with the pen has a special dot pattern is in the background.  When you write, the pen records, with an optical camera, the location of every pen stroke.  Once docked in the cradle connected to a computer, the pen strokes are processed into images and/or text.  The text, data, & images are stored in files your computer or network.  Paperwork is electronically stored as a PDF file and/or a data file.  Data files can be automatically inserted into your data storage system.

And then...

All handwriting & drawings are now in your computer as electronic files without any typing!  They now can be used with other programs.

Blank digital paper (with just the dot pattern on it), is used in your printer to print your own forms onto it. ‘Digital paper’ can be used in a variety of formats

On ‘blank’ digital paper you can…

  • Print your existing forms for image capture, combining computer form document completed with handwriting

  • Turn handwritten note pages into PDFs and/or word processing documents

  • Capture sketches in a PDF

  • Capture signatures on forms for electronic storage

  • Use custom designed forms for translation of handwriting to computerized data files

Pen and Paper Benefits

  • Easy to use

    • Quicker and easier to collect information with pen than keyboard entry

    • No difficult computer software programs to learn to use

    • More ‘mobile’ than a notebook computer

    • Not limited by size of PDA screen

  • Cost efficient

    • Eliminate duplicate effort of data entry and dictation, saving time and money

    • Use digital pen in place of a costly, bulky notebook computer

    • Eliminate time and cost of filing, storage space, scanning, faxing, and overnight delivery of documents

    • Instantly share information with others in office or another location

  • Accurate

A study of hand entry, PC tablet, palm and the digital pen found the pen to be more accurate than other means of entering information

    • 1 error – pen 50% better

    • 2 errors – pen 66% better

    • 3 errors – pen 100%
